Art and Wellbeing in the Spirit of Inclusion

The Project

KuWohl – Art and Wellbeing under the Sign of Inclusion, conceived by Artemisia, is a two-year, multidisciplinary project that offers workshops across different neighbourhoods. Through dance, music, movement and visual arts, it promotes wellbeing, inclusion and social interaction, creating meeting spaces for people of different ages and abilities. The name reflects the connection between “Art” and “Wellbeing”.

The project involves people with and without disabilities and people with migrant backgrounds, promoting social cohesion, mutual respect and the appreciation of differences, thanks to inclusive methods practiced by facilitators and assistants. Activities hosted in various partner and community spaces contribute to building a network of inclusion.

Funding and collaborations

The project is funded by Aktion Mensch in cooperation with the AWO-Begegnungszentrum and other local organisations.

Project venues

Some workshops will take place at the Stadtteilzentrum (STZ) Adalbertstrasse premises, while others may be held in different city facilities such as libraries, community centres or family centres. For information on sessions at other venues, please contact the project manager Alice Marchetto.

The Workshops

Mobile Atelier

Facilitator: Marco Fiamin
Educational art therapist and experiential educator

Workshop description

The Mobile Atelier is a creative, inclusive, itinerant space aimed at adults. It takes place in various venues across the city, such as libraries, community centers and family centers.

The Atelier offers anyone who wishes the opportunity to express themselves artistically through three areas of work:

  • tempera painting;
  • drawing and small-scale crafts;
  • hands-on creativity with clay.

Each participant creates freely, for themselves and at their own pace, in a shared, welcoming and non-judgemental space.

The support team is present to welcome participants, make materials available, and help maintain a calm and relaxed environment.

The Mobile Atelier is not an art course: no techniques are taught, nor are there instructions on “how to do things”. The space is designed to allow each person to freely explore their own creativity.

Objectives of the Atelier

  • To encourage artistic and creative expression through different materials;
  • To offer accessible opportunities for creativity in different areas of the city;
  • To spread the pleasure of creating in a welcoming, relaxed and shared environment.

Atelier schedule

The Atelier is an open and flexible space.

Each participant may arrive and leave at the time they prefer, with no fixed start or end times, and stay for as long as they wish, depending on the availability of stations and materials.

For example:

  • you may arrive at the opening and take part in setting up the space;
  • you may arrive after the Atelier has already started;
  • you may stay for 20 minutes, one hour, or for the whole duration;
  • you may stay until closing and, if you wish, take part in tidying up materials.

Duration

There will be 17 sessions, each lasting 3 hours, spread across 2026 and 2027, organised in cycles of 4 or 5 sessions.

Melodies Without Borders

Facilitator: Davide Rossini
Musician, conductor, arranger and composer.

The conductor has experience in professional music and in teaching. He studied at the Conservatory and holds a postgraduate master’s degree specifically in “Special Education” and Inclusion. Among the key experiences that gave rise to this project are the conductor’s collaborations with various institutions and associations, including musical activities dedicated to people with Parkinson’s disease.

Workshop description

Through musical practice, composition and collective improvisation, each participant can express their personality during the various meetings. The experience and creativity of each person, expressed through the development of ideas, texts, vocal expression or the use of musical instruments, will be the basis of an artistic project based on collaboration and the enhancement of diversity.

Objectives of the workshop

The course aims primarily to bring out and strengthen individual potentials by putting them at the service of a shared artistic-musical idea.

Benefits of this collective musical practice include: the valorisation of the individual within an inclusive context, the acceptance of diversity as a core value and, generally, improved psycho-physical wellbeing and increased self-esteem through the use of one’s own creativity within an ensemble.

The course will leave each participant with a new way of approaching diversity, improved musical-artistic skills, renewed empathy towards others and a greater predisposition to future collaborations.

Participation request and instrument use

In the application, please indicate:

  • the type of personal instrument you intend to bring to the workshop;
  • whether you have previous musical skills or experience.

Those who do not have a personal instrument can send a request by email to check the availability of instruments provided. If an instrument is available, the participant may use it free of charge only for the duration of the workshop and must return it in the same condition at the end of the course. A free loan form for the musical material must also be completed.

Duration

JA! “A Conscious Experience of Dance and Movement

Facilitator: Kaveh Ghaemi

Kaveh Ghaemi born in 1984 in Tehran, Iran, began his artistic career as an actor and dancer. He studied at the Samandarian Theater Academy and received the award for Best Male Actor at the Fadjr Festival Iran in both 2009 and 2010. Since 2011, he has been based in Berlin.

As a dancer, he has performed in numerous productions at venues including Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Maxim Gorki Theater, Akademie der Künste, Radialsystem, Theater Thikwa, Theater an der Parkaue, and Strahl Theater.

Since 2015, he has led dance workshops for young people and worked as a dance educator with refugee children and adolescents. His practice focuses on intersectional, intergenerational, and diversity-oriented approaches, particularly in working with people with disabilities, deaf people, and young participants in youth theatre and community associations.

In 2019/2020, he collaborated with Grips Theater and RambaZamba Theater on an inclusive project that was presented at the Tanztreffen der Jugend in 2021. In 2025, he created his own production as a choreographer at Theater Thikwa.

Workshop description

The dance workshop is open to everyone aged 18 and over, regardless of previous experience, physical condition, or dance background. Beginners, participants with prior experience, and people with and without disabilities are all warmly welcome.

At the core of the workshop is an energetic and engaging approach to dance and movement, introducing basic techniques from different dance styles while also creating space for individual expression. Through simple yet powerful movement sequences, improvisation, and group practice, participants strengthen body awareness, sense of rhythm, and stage presence.

A special focus is placed on empowerment: participants are encouraged to connect more deeply with their bodies, explore their own movement possibilities, and build confidence in their personal expressive abilities.

Objectives of the workshop

The workshop sees dance as an open, inclusive, and creative space where diversity is valued as a strength and shared learning is at the center of the experience.

Talking Drums

Facilitator: Vito Giacovelli

Italian percussionist and music teacher, he has lived in Berlin since 2012. His passion for rhythm began at a young age through his encounter with African culture, which has shaped his musical and artistic path. He trained in Senegalese, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, modern, and multi-percussion under internationally renowned masters in Italy and Cuba. Over the years, his career has spanned diverse genres—from Afro and Latin jazz to salsa, samba, Balkan music, and rock—and he has taught percussion and led workshops for adults and children at various music schools across Italy.

Workshop description

This is an ensemble music workshop open to everyone who wants to approach rhythm through drums, percussion instruments, voice and body percussion.
Designed as a creative laboratory, it promotes collaboration, socialization and inclusion: music is not the end but the means to experience collective, enjoyable and accessible activities, as confirmed by music therapy studies.
Inspired by the concept of a drum circle, the workshop takes place mainly in a circle arrangement, which encourages listening, communication and mutual exchange. Depending on the activity, the circle can open and transform, creating moments where dance and singing enrich the collective experience.

Objectives of the workshop

To promote collaboration, socialization and inclusion through the shared experience of rhythm, drums, voice and body, where music becomes a means to create connection and creativity.
